A pioneer in website design and development, Boston Interactive is one of the oldest continually operating website design and development firms in the Boston area. Founded in 1999 by Chuck Murphy as HomepageFX, the company changed its name to Boston Web Design in 2001 and later became Boston Interactive in 2007. In 2000 Boston Interactive designed and developed its own content management system to meet the ongoing need for clients who were not technically savvy to update their website. Smartwebs is an ASP.NET content management system that operates in a similar fashion as Microsoft Office. The privately held corporation has 32 employees and is currently located in the landmark Schrafft Center in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Lasting through the Dot Com era, the 16-year-old company has serviced more than 350 clients and has been named on the Boston Business Journal Pacesetters list and the Inc 500 5000 list.
